The Story (All of IT!)

I wear a lot of hats: father to two phenomenal daughters, husband to a brilliant wife, board certified family practitioner, board certified geriatrician, passionate home cook, amateur snowboarder, avid meditator, intermittent fasting advocate, wine connoisseur (recently completed WSET level I and currently enrolled in the Court of Master Sommeliers introductory course), et cetera, et cetera...

But before of all that: I was a kid in my room  with an unquenchable passion for writing rhymes.  I wrote my first rhyme when I was ten years old... That evolved into free styling incessantly in the high school parking lot while I continued to sharpen my skills night after night at home... that then evolved to co-founding the Mike & Ike duo in college. We dropped our debut album, Introducing, in 2005 and that led to: performances all throughout Texas (and a showcase in Chicago), the Mayor of Austin honoring us with Mike & Ike day on June 5, and a solid fanbase in Texas and beyond.

In 2009, I graduated from medical school and began my family practice residency in Fort Worth, Texas.  To put it simply, surviving residency required concentration of my entire mind, body, and soul.  However, I continued to write in order to relieve stress and maintain my sanity.  Performing and recording were not a priority at the time but I still created the F.L.Y. (Forgetting Lost Youth) series of mixtapes during this incredibly busy time.

During residency, I met my incredible wife that was preparing to work as an Air Force physician.  Her commitment to the Air Force took us to Dayton, Ohio for four years (2009 - 2013). We happened to move in right next door to the talented Nick Robison aka on-E who is now my co-conspirator on the vast majority of my tracks.  During my time in Ohio, I recorded the on-E with FLEEZY series which includes: on-E with FLEEZY, on-Evolution, and the Nigel Black Album.

After my wife's commitment in Ohio was complete, we were sent to Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California.  Shortly after our move, our family grew with the birth of our first daughter.  Zoe D's arrival changed my outlook towards life and making music.  My focus on being the best father I can combined with my increasing emphasis on meditation and mindfulness birthed the MICFULNESS series.  10 albums and 52 tracks later, here we are!
